On Thursday, I was in Brussels attending a presentation about the funding for economic research in Europe. Afterwards, I did an interview with Stephen Yeo, the CEO of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). He explained to me how the landscape of research funding for economists in Europe is changing and why a lot of economists are frustrated with the current system of funding and what the European Commission has to change.
Perception is usually reality. Economists in this country (U.S.) are often just paid to give the party line. Seems like so many “independent” disciplines in the U.S. are no longer “independent”. Everything is just so political and divided. Hard to believe anyone anymore. Hope the UK is different.
